Kalmadi The Scapegoat

The scale of this INC dirty tricks department’s has baffled me.

Yes, I know its Kalmadi bashing thats in fashion on TV and Parliament. Make no mistake: Kalmadi is no angel. And I hold no brief for this dubious politician.

But if he is guilty, then it must be more in the realm of the pathetic selection process of athletes to represent India in the CWG and in selecting Khel Ratna Awards than some toilet paper or cabs.

But this media blitz is to ensure that the real possibility of a shoddy show and the PR disaster that’ll follow is diverted by pre-emption.

Take a close look at the real problems. It is Delhi (MCD & Government) that has failed to deliver the infrastructure on time. The mess is what you see on TV and indeed spoken about by “panellists” and parliamentarians. How is Kalmadi responsible for this? If stadia leak or the tiles in the swimming pool are poor and wont last beyond the end of the games, then how is Kalmadi responsible? The Delhi Administration + The GOI who are responsible, not the IOC.

If Kalmadi has been in anyway involved the piddly leak to AM Films or Cabs, compared to the 10s of thousands “spent” on the infrastructure that may well crumble during the games, why are we focussed on Kalmadi?

Thats because both the BJP (Delhi MCD) and the INC (Delhi Congress) and the PM who gave the IOA President an assurance whe the latter threatened to shift the CWG from Delhi, that may now well fail in delivery, need a scapegoat. Thats what Kalmadi is. Imagine the political cost if he truth about this failure were to be properly assigned to the PM? Just as the PM is nowhere to be seen in other BIG issues like Kashmir, he’s forgotten that he assured the IOA and now faces a desperate situation w.r.t the CWG.

This PM must go down in history as the accidental, absent PM. This is what happens when you have the real power appoint a puppet to lead and then go on a holiday when India burns.

There is no denying that the IOC and the sports associations have done nothing to get the best athletes to represent India. But no one is asking that important question – since they’re have been “influenced” by the mighty to start the deflection process – the red herring.

And the champion in this diversion is NDTV that has anchors now wear the bindi when they would never appear wearing one just a year or two ago. One suspects this is the visual spin of the NDTV*/NSTV** an undisclosed arm of the INC dirty tricks machine.

The big items that will bring India shame are the poor infrastructure and the performance on the sports field. Not toilet paper and umbrellas that are the focus of TV. Those are the questions we should be asking.

Oh yes, we should also ask how every TV channel was led down this path, so that the public is led down the garden path.
