The stone pelters go berserk in Kashmir. TV moaned the inaction and ineffectiveness of the CRPF & Police. Bloggers berate government, call it names.
The Government sends in the army and enforced the curfew. TV moans the suffering of the common man. TV runs emotive stories of how families go without food or water because of the government crackdown. TV runs stories of how government bullets killed “innocent” Kashmiri teenagers.
The Government leaks phone surveillance clearly showing how the “protest” marches were run by paid assassins funded by separatists owing allegiance to Pakistan. TV berates the government for not making peace overtures and gaining the confidence of “innocent“ Kashmiris.
Government relaxes curfew, the mobs descend on the streets again, pelting stones, killing each other. The cycle starts again, escalating with every round.
Moral of the story:
The Government is always wrong; People are always innocent and TV is always right.
Thats the formula for TRPs. A heady mix that the moneybags who own TV will never give up. It’s just too lucrative. Why?
And oh, yes, I almost forgot. Thats what the viewer laps up and cant get enough of: Emotional Hits (Highs). An outlet for pent up anger & frustration.
