Educated, well employed urban citizens wont go to vote, let alone campaign for a better candidate in their constituency. Then they crib for 5 yrs till the next election and repeat cycle.
And then they crib nothing changes – for the rest of their lives.

The Workers Party benefited from this citizen movement which it supported strongly and encouraged local citizens to contest elections. Maybe the this is an opportunity for parties in India with a long term view, not just the next elections.
