Indians – Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Christians and all the other listed races that make up Indians – has bestowed their unfettered love and largesse on A R Rahman making him the best selling musician India has seen in ages. Even propelled him, in a way, to the first Indian to win an Oscar.
Unfortunately, his composition for the Commonwealth Games has not found favour with Indians. Note, Indians – not Hindus or Christians, but all Indians. It’s just not in the same league as his many compositions. This kind of thing happens. That’s all. Not all of MJ’s songs were equally great hits. Nor even the Beatles’.
Barkha Dutt on TBSH on NDTV runs a major part of the show debating whether the criticism is “unfair”. WHAT DOES THAT IMPLY??? She also asks, “Why has this become so BIG?” – Then WHY IS SHE HOSTING A SHOW ON IT?
The answer is not far to find. She needs TRPs and with Muslims insecure with all that’s going on in the world and she being one, so she’s ‘safe’ from being attacked as a racists by her own kind, it’s easy to subtly imply that Rahman is being “targeted” and collect TRPs.
If you don’t think it should be BIG, and it isn’t, then don’t try and squeeze TRPs out of fuelling a fire and then covering it – doesn’t it make you a TRP Jihadist?
I’m sad that a National TV Channel has chosen to use this criticism to fuel subterfuge. Maybe we need a TV Regulator badly. Rahman is and will remain an extremely popular musician of India and as he said in his acceptance speech at the Oscars, he chose LOVE not hate!!! Maybe B Dutt should too.
