I am all against any force or action without mutual consent, let alone rape or sexual harassment. It is not only despicable and condemnable, but shows scant respect for others, to say the least.
But there is a danger in an over reaction to the current spate of obnoxious and completely inhuman rape cases being reported. Amending a law is one thing and ensuring public safety and security is quite another.
Surveys in the US have shown that 1 in 5 American women “will” be raped in her lifetime and 1 in 3.5 will be attacked by a rapist. India was never far behind, except that more cases are being reported and the TRP starved Indian News Media has found a new lifeline.
There is an old joke: “It’s a date the night before; no flowers the morning after and it’s rape.”
The misuse of the anti-dowry law, like the many others, has shown that in righting a wrong, the pendulum usually swings to the other extreme.
The solution is in better law enforcement. Better social strictures and far better upbringing at home.
Taking a woman’s allegations at face value will lead to one benefit for sure: a reduction of population as men shy away from any real sex and turn to the plentiful, free and variety of porn online. After all, for a man, sex is over in 30 seconds.
Love, on the other hand, is what counts. But love without sex in a marital bedroom will leave women incomplete in their biological need of rearing children.
Another knee-jerk solution from this Congress GOI will add to the mess India already has.
