I am intrigued. Sonia Gandhi and MMS would more than any of us know that the chapter and verse of allegations of corruption and inept – if not down right incompetent – governance that have been made by all and sundry, including captains of industry and civil society.
The feeble attempts of INC controlled TV/media to paper over the serious issues that GOI is openly failing in does not wash. The stock markets are falling despite good corporate results and global market strength.
Two recent events have raised serious doubt: (1) That even clerical procedures to consummate the treaty to get Swiss bank account details not completed. Just like the CBI could not get papers translated in Spanish for the Q extradition. (2) A cabinet reshuffle that means absolutely nothing in terms of solving India’s problems.
Why the sudden doubts?
Because anyone and his mother-in-law will tell you that the congress does not have a ghost of a chance of returning to power in 2014, let alone in the states that go to polls before that. Then wouldn’t a party chief concerned with such a political future wish to be at least seen as acting to remedy the situation?
So WHY has Sonia Gandhi not tried to remedy serious political losses, somewhat obvious to a political novice like me? Or the hollering tweeps on the social circuit?
I’ve actually agonised over this question for some 24 months now, when things began a major downward spiral. There are TWO top level scenarios that I have come up with:
- Since a win is ruled out in any state or the centre, maximise loot while keeping governance weak and disabled. Lose the next election so badly that they’ll be written off and INC disintegrate and vanish with the loot.
- IF and when INC returns, show that only a Gandhi can govern. (Poor used & discarded MMS) Rahul Gandhi the saviour. Seal the deal!
Can you think of any other reason/s why there almost seems a deliberate attempt at destroying any chances of the congress coming to power in any state, let alone the centre?
