The X Tapes, obviously authentic, has ripped the fig leaf of journalism that you have worn all these years.
But this note isn’t about how ‘bad’ that is.
In fact I have never found your pushing your views, political agenda, fixing, mediating, etc, objectionable in itself.
Every person including one who controls a TV channel can choose what they want to put out and also take the consequence as well as benefits of that choice. It is a free country and an albeit imperfect free market in India.
What I have found objectionable and unprofessional is that you do not declare it openly but instead hide behind the fig leaf of journalism that is supposed to be balanced.
Funnily, the PM has done the same thing with the people of India by shielding a coalition of the worst corrupt politicians there are in India.
As you must well know, there are many commentators and show hosts, like some I know in the US, who unabashedly are the mouth pieces of one political party or another. Given that they are upfront about it, they have a legitimate space in media and viewers who may not agree with them still listen – if only to know their agenda and views. Like a political party puts out a manifesto and people will read it even if they vote against them.
My only question & objection you is, “WHY have you been camouflaging your real position?” Thats cheating, immoral and unprofessional, considering the role of journalism in a democracy.
In fact, I am of the opinion that trying to be covert about it beyond a point actually reduces your power to propagate your agenda!
The unveiling of your real character by these X Tapes has completely destroyed any credibility you may have had left after the last few months of biased, one-sided, untrue reporting and coverage on NDTV. It has destroyed the channel.
At this rate, New Delhi TV will soon become No Delhi TV, a sad outcome for an erstwhile reputed channel.
Has your proximity to absolute power corrupted you absolutely? That the country thats given you so much means nothing to you?
