Belgaum returned 221 Independents while the second placed BJP got just 104 in a ULB of 392 seats.
This must express the disgust that voters feel, if it says anything at all. TINA = avoid all established parties.
Everyone is talking of 905 seats for the BJP, but the startling outcome of the ULB elections is that the BJP can expect to govern in just 2 (thats right, two) of the 30 that went to polls! The INC can expect to rule in 23 of these 30 – either on its own (6) or with JDS or Independents! If thats not a rout for the BJP, what is?
The JDS is best placed to play King Maker and you can expect that “the” Gowdas will bargain hard, as INC would need them to keep the BJP out. The JDS can be part of the ruling ULB in 10 out of 30 ULBs.
The KJP will be “needed” in just 2 of the ULBs.
The BJP rout in Karnataka is complete.
The credit for this must surely go to “Fatso” and the BJP HQ bunch. Considering that the Reddy Bros were “saved” by Sushma Swaraj from expulsion by BSY, the BJP and BSY have paid the price of that bungling.
And Sushma talks about be-wafai of the PM. LMAO.
That people won’t tolerate such massive looting is seen from the fact that BSRCP – the proxy party of the Reddy Bros scored a ZERO in Bellary. This is the other notable outcome. People know all. And only they can unseat the burglars.
That must hold significance for the INC in the Parliament elections. Nothing will save their government.
TINA is everyone’s favourite “girl” these days, except the BJP in Karnataka.
The sad thing is while Belgaum spoke loud and clear and 778 Independents (as at going to press) got elected, none of the “new” age parties made any dent whatsoever. The electorate sees them as non-viable.
Considering the massive uprising due to the Anna Hazare IAC movement, it is apparent that the ego clashes of this “segment” have kept them from making any inroads.
Their known approach of aiming for “higher” echelons in power like the forthcoming Assembly elections fits their high ego levels.
A truly unique opportunity at the grass roots levels has been missed – simply because the personalities concerned resisted every attempt of saner counsel to organise the uprising.
The ensuing MLA elections will be their very last chance to show they want to make a difference rather than assert their egos.
Tailpiece: I pleaded for organising & ground network before attack. One man felt the “only” way to organise is to contest elections (attack). So far, none of the newbies have any party organisation worth speaking about.
Intelligence and humility can go hand in hand, provided humility comes first. I mean true humility, not the sucking up / crawling type 🙂
