- Ruling party can choose the parties for awarding TV Broadcast licences with out any limits to the number.
- ALL TV Licensees are subject to a National or Regional vote as applicable to the licence – along with elections to the Lok Sabha / State Assemblies.
- Those that get more than 50% vote get renewals. Those that don’t are shut down.
The logic is simple: TV media is a “pillar” of democracy as are political parties and should be subject to the Peoples’ approval too. Thus preventing them from becoming propaganda instruments in the hands of corporate honchos or political parties, unless they can carry enough popular support!
