When leadership in Pak was strong (read @PervezMusharraf ) then INC becomes spineless. A one-signature-away deal was reportedly delayed and Benazir happened, thanks to delays by High Command of INC.
Sonia Gandhi is no Golda Meier or Margaret Thatcher.
When MMS wants to make it his legacy, now that ‘liberalisation’ as a Fin Min has faded away into history, INC still has no spine and Pak is politically dismembered.
We’ll see back and forth for another 60 years OR:
(a) If Pak ‘hits’ bottom when US removes its support after achieving its narrow Af-Pak objectives
(b) Two hawks come to power on both sides and settle it once and for all time to come. Peace is possible between 2 hawks or 2 doves. Otherwise one tries to eat the other ~ law of nature
(c) A nuke war breaks out
None of these senarios visible at this time.
So in the mean time, its swinging back and forth….
