The next census (already overdue) will be followed by a fresh demarcation of consstituencies, right down to the Ward (Panchayat) level. The new Parliament has 822 seats in anticipation of India’s population growth and is supposedly built to last 150 years.
Those opposing the inaguration by PM Modi are doing so for flimsy reasons. While making their opposition to the PM inagurating the new Parliament instead of the President (ignoring the various times their own PMs & CMs have ‘flouted’ this very ‘protocol’) only shows that they’re willing to sacrifice the larger good of the largest democracy in the world, for petty, illogical & political (vote bank) reasons. One more self-inflicted nail in their own *electoral coffin* in my opinion!
Anyone who’s read my posts will know that I am no *fan* of ANY political Party. Instead I focus on *issues* not personalities or ideology. For, in the era of artificial intelligence the caste, religious & ideological differences are a flimsy basis for Good Governance.
If the RJD has compared the shape of the new Parliament to a coffin, it only shows their mindset. Maybe their political coffin is being made ready for use in the near future!
Sure, Modi could have done lots of things in a less disruptive or disparaging way – and in a more graceful way. But that’s Modi for you! But to stoop to opposing the new parliament of such flimsy grounds will not gain them any votes. Nay, it *will* lose them votes!
I only hope that the massive media blitz by Modi on the ‘features’ of the new Parliament come good in reality. As many of his impulsive acts have come unravelled. Time will tell.
I shudder to think what an 822 Joker-filled Parliament would do to India.
Forget contesting from prison, it is high time to totally ban anyone with any serious criminal history (even a chargesheet should count) from even contesting.
There *should* be a minimum criteria for accepting candidate applications for contesting. Criteria that would not exclude people with no formal education but should filter them out with a point system in prior public, civic & social work and negative points for other undesirable characteristics.
Jai Hind!
