All political parties, without exception, believe it is mandatory to rebut every single statement emanating from any other party if it is considered ‘against’ itself.
Resistance only causes persistence. If you don’t believe me, check out the ‘life curve’ of ‘attacks’ and ‘counter-attacks’. You will see it grows in size, never settled. The issue only gets overtaken by another, perhaps ‘bigger’ if not ‘fresher’ issue.
The consequence is that the Aam Admi will draw his own conclusions based on the counter-charge-war w/o any real response to the issue from the party in question, much less the government in question.
These dilatory tactics USED to work. In the 21st Century, they don’t. The loser is ALWAYS the suspect party. And political parties don’t seem to learn that their ‘answers’ need not be to their political opponents but to the people at large.
No one I know who has apologised for a mistake has ever been hanged. Infact, he is usually the recipient of a gracious pardon if not sympathy for his honesty.
People will ALWAYS vote for people they can trust to be straight, honest and committed to them. For that, the pre-requisite is not to never make any mistakes, but to make amends for mistakes that will inevitably be made! After all, aren’t politicians humans?
Maybe I am naive. They must think themselves to be Gods if not God’s gift to mankind.
