Wellness

Almost everyone has been told as a child that it is important to eat right, sleep right, play right and study right. Mom’s have always told their kids this; in any case my mother used to drill it in!

As I grew up, I had plenty of “play”. I represented my college in six games and my university in two. From being a sprint medalist to captaining the university table-tennis team, I’ve had my fair share of physical adventure. I even won the first Charminar Challenge national motor car rally!

But since I “grew up” with MBA and career thereafter, the attention to keep the body in shape was lost. In my early days, I put on weight (you know where – the tummy) and became increasingly unfit.

Then with age that loss of attention to physical fitness only grew worse. While honing my mental faculties, I continued to house it in an increasingly unfit body. Sometime in 2002 I became conscious of the need to keep fit if I were to enjoy all that Life had to offer.

The struggle to do the daily minimum walk, if not an hour at the gym, has only been lost half the time. These days my aim is to make it to the gym atleast 4 of the 7 days every week. My score is poor. In the last six months, I’ve made it on 50% of the weeks; the rest have been lost to sheer lasiness.

The only tonic that works is to not think at the end of a day’s work. Just head off to the gym. The moment I “think” everything becomes more important than exercise. In no time, the feeling takes over. Ironically, the feeling is always unfavourable towards exercise! Too tierd; too exhausted; etc etc. The only way it works is to not think or feel.

I dont know how many of those who read this share this yearning for better physical fitness (dont confuse it with any body building – just plain fitness) but if you have been practicing anything that helps keep a better track record of working out, do drop me a comment!

A sound mind cannot survive very long in an unsound body!
