Why shouldn’t we opt instead for a Trial By Media & The People?

The Indian judicial system stinks. The politicians have an interest in keeping it that way. So what should we do?

For long, I have been very critical of the way the media, especially some TV channels have been conducting a trial-by-media with a lot of rumour mongering and character assassination going on during this trial and error by many reporters trying to get that elusive scoop.

And I’m now veering around to the view that I was wrong. Or, better, that trial by media is FAR FAR FAR better than ANY justice we can expect from the GOI or our Court System.

I’ve had enough. I’m now going to applaud every single attempt by the media to unearth the truth. Soon, we can even have a legal Polling System (using our newfound UID project) to vote on a case – convict, sentence and execute.

Or we can wait for another 100 years for any real reform in the Judicial & Political System that is rotten to the core.

I know the moral police will immediately say “But the media is corrupt too”. Yes, maybe. But competition will take care of that and atleast, the media is SWIFT. Given a lifetime of waiting for the judicial system to deliver ANY justice, isn’t “Justice Delayed is Justice is Denied” ? Then why not get “imperfect” justice swiftly?

We must think the unthinkable, in the 21st century – when technology provides new forms of public participation.
